Works honoring Inouye, Mink sought
The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts has issued a call for artists to create works in honor of Hawaii’s late Sen. Daniel K. Inouye and Rep. Patsy T. Mink.
Artists must apply through callforentry.org by Aug. 26.
The 2013 state Legislature passed Act 281 instructing the state foundation to commission sculptures honoring Inouye and Mink for the area known as the Honolulu Civil Center, and that $250,000 be spent for each piece from the Works of Art special fund. The fund comes from 1 percent of the cost of capital improvement projects undertaken by the state.
Semifinalists may be asked for detailed proposals for the monuments. All works purchased or commissioned by the foundation are screened by an art acquisition committee before going to the full board of commissioners for approval.
